I’ve been on a bit of a Michael Caine bent of late, and having watched the Italian Job, Pulp, Play Dirty, and Deadfall in the last few weeks I can say unequivocally that Michael Caine is one of the coolest people on the planet.
The man certainly knows how to wear a suit. Always opting for impeccable slim cuts that have a simple elegance to them, and of course topping everything off with those thick horn rimmed glasses.

I must say that the photo above has been seared into my memory. There’s something eerily arresting about his penetrating gaze that nails you to the floor with its cocky swagger, slight malice, and just a twinge of sadness.
The delicate balance between light and dark figuratively in his eyes and literally in the photo itself seems to highlight his ability to play cold, heartless bastards as well as charming rogues.
It’s uncanny how equally at home he is playing unlikeable characters like the misogynistic rake in Alfie, the slimy mobster in Mona Lisa, or the deranged cross-dressing murderer in Dressed to Kill, as he is playing charismatic lads.
Although I suppose it’s the fact that audiences know him as such an affable lad that makes him so creepy as villains.
