Deap Vally’s Summer Playlist

With a sudden blast of horribly humid heat hitting New York and putting the inevitable march to Winter on hold for a bit, I figured it was time to trot out the summer playlist for one last go around.

Courtesy of PureVolume, the beer guzzling, glass breaking, moon howling vixens of Deap Vally, Lindsey Troy and Julie Edwards, have put together the perfect summer playlist.

On a side note, if you haven't picked up your copy of their blistering debut LP Sistronix that just dropped on Tuesday, you need to hurry up and tattoo it to your eardrums ASAP.

The Smiths – Half A Person

“This song is best listened to on a summer road trip, windows rolled down, sun setting, hair blowing in the wind.”

Drenge – People In Love Make Me Feel Yuck

“We toured with Drenge – they are our bretheren. They’re a great fucking band and this is a killer tune.”

Tinariwen – Imidiwan Ma Tenam

“Listening to this song while laying in the sun is a euphoric experience.”

Tame Impala – Elephant

“This song is probably on most people’s summer playlist, and it should be. It’s one of the grooviest tunes I’ve ever heard.”

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – Ain’t No Easy Way

“Cuz it’s always the season for BRMC”

The Knife – Heartbeats

“I will never grow tired of this song. The percussion has a Caribbean influence, which reminds me of being on a cruise when I was a kid.”

“Screamin’ Jay Hawkings – I Put a Spell on You

“This slow, swampy, sexy tune goes perfect with a balmy summer night by the pool.”

Kurt Vile – A Girl Called Alex

“This is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard.”

Unknown Mortal Orchestra – Swim and Sleep (Like a Shark)

“For its title alone this song is on my summer playlist.”

Safety Orange – State of Where I Am

This is my brother’s band. Listening to it while I’m on the road makes me happy because it reminds me of home.

Deap Vally – Sistronix

The highly anticipated debut album of blistering rock duo Deap Vally is finally here. On Sistronix, out today, these napalm breathing she wolfs will grind your bones to dust with their scorched earth take no prisoners fuck off blues rock.

With its brutal rhythms, guttural banshee wails, major distortion, and body shaking drums, the album is a fiery sacrifice to the gods of rock. Steeped in the live fast die young tradition, songs are dedicated to hedonistic debauchery and brutally hard living with titles like “Bad for my Body” and “Walk of Shame.”

Head over to Spin for the full album stream.

Deap Vally – Bad For My Body

The fire breathing, adrenaline spitting, diesel drinking vixens of Deap Vally are back with another single from their forthcoming album, Sistronix.

On “Bad For My Body,” Deap Vally embraces the sex, death, and madness of proper fuck off rock n’ roll. Guitarist and vocalist Lindsey Troy sneers with a petulance that only youth can muster, “Doin’ things that are bad for my health/Doin’ things that are bad for my future because I can’t help myself.”

Drink a bathtub of whiskey, inject a fire hose of heroin, or do whatever you’re into, but just make sure to turn it up to eleven.

Deap Vally – Get Deap! EP

Hide your kids and lock your doors because Deap Vally is cannonballing their way across the country to promote their rollicking new EP Get Deap!

Drawing heavily on the rock gods of yore – Led Zeppelin, Stooges, and Joan Jett – these two mynxes breathe diesel, spit fire, and bleed pure adrenaline. Their darkly sexual and predatory brand of blues rock simultaneously arouses and terrifies you in a way that only proper rock and roll can.

With the snarl of a panther, Lindsey Troy screams like a combination of Alison Mosshart, Robert Plant, and Jack White, while Julie Edwards mercilessly assaults the drums with the force of an artillery barrage.

Peep the videos for “Lies” and “Gonna Make My Own Money” below, and head here to score a free download of “Ain’t Fair.”
