Sports Debut Album Released

Over the weekend, Sports released their debut self-titled LP on Crash Symbols

Featuring a few previously released singles and mostly new material, this 8 track album is packed full of some serious goodies.

Since I first heard the band last year, Sports has definitely been hard at work refining their sound and honing their unique style.

On their initial release, the Seattle trio takes you on a wild psychedelic ride with their blissed out melodies and smooth beats. The album is filled with haunting electropop, longing introspective lyrics, mournful vocals, and a whole lot of 80s inspired synths.

Particular standouts include “<3?,” “To Catch A Thief,” and “Runaway.”

James and Evander and Sports Remix Swap – Turtle Two and Mind Has Changed

It’s no secret that AA is a big fan of Sports and more recently James and Evander, so today our ears get double teamed with the music of both. To quote James and Evander “yay internets” because the wonders of the interwebs have brought us this aural orgasm.

Those kinky bastards have decided to do a bit of swinging and allowed each other to have their way with each other’s music. In a fun exchange, Sports has remixed James and Evander’s “Turtle Two,” while James and Evander were busy getting down with Sports’ “Mind Has Changed.”

Attentive to the subtleties of something not their own, they’ve brought out parts of the song and made it do things I didn’t think it was capable of, let alone willing.

On Sports’ remix of “Turtle Two,” they bring even more upbeat and inquisitive energy to the original. After a mellow start, this track builds nicely until you can’t help but get caught up in its groove.



Here James and Evander have gotten lurid and depraved with Sports’ “Mind Has Changed.” It’s dark and lusty, with a sinister undertone and just a ridiculous pleasure to listen to.

New Sports Release - Mind Has Changed

Sports is back with another fantastic new release. If you’ve been following my blog, you’ll know that I rather like them and have posted a few tracks from this up and coming band. So when I opened my inbox to see that they had sent me an email, I knew I was in for a treat.

Mind Has Changed has the same distorted voice, undulating synths, and smooth beats of their other songs, although the pulsing rhythm makes it distinctly more dance friendly and the vocals are more prominently featured. With longing lyrics filled with disembodied emotion, it will have you dancing and reminiscing quietly - admittedly an odd combination for the dance floor, but perfect for your aural pleasure.

Sports – Every World Is A World Of Your Own

Here’s a little more love for Sports today. I just received this track the other day, and it’s been stuck in my head since.

The synths are spectacularly 80’s New Wave and after just a few bars you will be whisked away to a magical land filled with big curls, shoulder pads, members only jackets, big glasses, and power suits.

AA Loves: Sports

With longing lyrics from a disembodied voice riding smoothly over mellow synths, Sports touches me in unwholesome places.

If I were to ever need an ethereal soundtrack for a movie about a solitary traveler in space rife with inner turmoil, contemplative moments, and long thoughtful glances into the camera, Sports would be at the top of my list. Their haunting melodies, New Wave synths, and undulating bass lines are the perfect way to welcome the approach of Fall.
